FOR TEACHERS

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Whoever adopts teaching as a profession assumes the obligation to conduct him/her in accordance with the ideal of the profession. A teacher is constantly under the scrutiny of students and the society at large. Therefore, every teacher should see that there is no incompatibility between their precept and practice. The National ideals of education which have already been set forth and which they should seek to inculcate among students must be their own ideals. The profession further requires that the teachers should be calm, patient and communicative by temperament and amiable in disposition.

DO'S

  • Adhere to a responsible pattern of conduct and demeanour expected of them by the community;
  • Manage their private affairs in a manner consistent with the dignity of the profession
  • Aspire to make professional growth continuous through study and research.
  • Be well prepared before you stand before the students.
  • Prepare Annual/Semester/Daily teaching plans and get it approved by Principal
  • Prepare teaching notes for each class
  • Use quality text books/ prescribed books. (Avoid using substandard study materials and abridged books for teaching)
  • Be aware of student’s previous knowledge and abilities, when planning activities.
  • Learn good teaching practices and class management from good teachers (class, indiscipline, naughty student, etc)
  • Plan for different learning styles.
  • Plan activities for involving students in learning
  • Vary the teaching environment.
  • Allow student be risk takers and make mistakes
  • Allow student figure out their mistakes.
  • Allow students work in groups.
  • Establish clear simple rules.  
  • Establish appropriate listening, speaking and answering / responding behaviours.
  • Admire appropriate behaviours. Clarify inappropriate behaviours, explain consequences, and make students realise what was wrong.
  • Establish looks or signals rather than drawing verbal attention to inappropriate behaviours.
  • Give breaks - establish actions to gain and bring back student attention.
  • Create a situation rather than force a student to join an activity
  • Allow extra time for the week and show patience.
  • Let student explore and learn from outside the classroom
  • Make your class fun, so that the student wants to come to College everyday because of YOU.
  • Deal fairly and impartially with students regardless of their religion, caste, political, economic, social and physical characteristics
  • Be affectionate to the students and not behave in a vindictive manner towards any of them for any reason
  • Refrain from inciting students against other students, colleagues or the administration.
  • Prepare monthly attendance statement and alert the students
  • Conduct internal assessment as per schedule
  • Finalise attendance and internal marks within a week after completion of semester

TEACHERS AND COLLEAGUES

  • Treat other members of the profession in the same manner as they themselves wish to be treated;
  • Be cordial and polite with fellow teachers
  • Speak respectfully of other teachers and render assistance for professional betterment
  • Refrain from lodging unsubstantiated allegations against colleagues
  • Refrain from allowing considerations of caste, creed, religion, race or gender in their professional endeavour.
  • Teachers should treat the non-teaching staff as colleagues and equal partners in a cooperative undertaking.
  • Teachers should help in the function covering both teachers and the non-teaching staff.

×Don’ts×

  • Punish any student physically, tease, humiliate or use harsh words or torture mentally
  • Ignore students / allow them to wander or talk, when you are engaged.
  • Act / talk as a police person
  • Teach a mistake. Be sure what is correct
  • Discourage – demotivate or anything that could affect interest or cause a depression
  • Teach holding books and sit while you give a lesson 
  • Take action against any student without explaining  
  • Give imposition or other wasteful acts to force a student learn.  
  • Overwhelm student with rules and routines.
  • Judge student with prejudice 
  • Make exceptions to the College's rules, even if you don't agree with          them. 
  • Reprimand a student in front of others; a quiet word in their ear is okay.
  • Allow disrespect to learning, others, or property 
  • Talk matters other than College related within staffroom
  • Using mobile phones during class hours
  • Taking leave / or being absent in a manner disturbing class schedule
